From Brisbane to Bombay, the best of Asia comes to Kuala Lumpur this September for Kita Food Festival

Food-lovers, are you ready?
Kita Food Festival’s fourth Kuala Lumpur Weekender will return from 4 to 8 September.
Stretching over five long and oh-so-tasty days, Kita Food Festival will supercharge Kuala Lumpur this September with a top crop of star chefs and culinary thought leaders from around the Asia Pacific. There will be events to suit every mood and budget, including: a series of Four-Hand and Kitchen Takeover Dinners featuring chefs from Bangkok to Bangalore. This will be topped by a jam-packed weekend featuring a Big Sunday Barbecue and an exciting new food-focused all-day’er called A Food Affair.
A few of the dinners on offer include:
- Prin Polsuk, Thailand’s master of spice and owner of one-Michelin star and #29 Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024, Samrub Samrub Thai (Bangkok, Thailand), will cook a casual dinner that reflects the food security, diversity, and community-driven cuisine of Southern Thai fishermen at Raw Kitchen Hall. The protégé of David Thompson, it’s almost a guarantee this dinner will knock your spicy socks off, alongside being the best Thai food you’re likely to dream of this decade – it’s unique to the Island natives of the Southern Thai gulf.
- Ben Devlin of Pipit, Regional Restaurant of the Year finalist according to the Good Food Guide 2023 (New South Wales, Australia), will bring his clean and distinctly Antipodean style cooking to Yellow Fin Horse, where he will cook with a selection of native Australian bush foods and the best of Malaysia’s home-grown produce.
- Hans Christian of August (Jakarta, Indonesia), #46 on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list, will make a triumphant return to Kita Food Festival (yes, we also nabbed him for our Penang leg last year) teaming up with home-grown culinary magician Aidan Low of Akâr Dining. Here they will showcase their collective passion for “New Nusantara” cuisine; the modern interpretation of the culinary culture of the Malay Archipelago.

Need something fresh to add to your foodie bucket list? The Kuala Lumpur leg will be proudly rolling out A Food Affair on 7 September, a next-level evolution of the Kita Conversations symposium on innovation and the future of food. There will be keynote speakers and fireside chats with top chefs and food-thought leaders, masterclasses in food, wine, and other beverages, plus a buzzing marketplace with artisan food and producers.
Stay tuned for the lineup.
Big Sunday Barbecue returns with a theme of Sticks and Stacks
Wrapping things up with true Kita Food Festival style, our Big Sunday Barbecue will be commanding all attention on Sunday, 8 September. This year’s theme will be Sticks and Stacks, with a stellar crop of chefs smokin’ it up over the grill. Amongst them: Pete Smit of Dirty Supper (Singapore), Vanika Choudhary of Noon (Mumbai, India), home kitchen internet sensation Anis Nabilah and Malaysia’s only 2-Michelin star restaurant Dewakan. It’s gonna be hot.
Tickets will go on sale on 31 July for Kita subscribers; 1 August for the general public.
