Hans Christian from August in Jakarta (#46 Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants) and Aidan Low from Akar Dining in KL are both at the forefront of the “new-Asian cuisine” movement currently reshaping Southeast Asia’s restaurant scene. 

On one side is Hans, the patron chef of Jakarta’s esteemed restaurant August, known for its modern Indonesian cuisine rooted in French technique. On the other side is Aidan Low from the Michelin-selected Akâr Dining, praised for its sophisticated approach to integrating local flavours and ingredients with international culinary techniques. Their collaborative four-hands dinner will highlight New Nusantara cuisines.

Hans offers a unique dining experience that marries contemporary methods with a deep appreciation for Indonesian spices and flavours.

Aidan culinary philosophy celebrates local flavours by utilising indigenous ingredients such as Borneo olives, frangipani flowers, and wild ginger oil. His approach emphasises the diverse offerings of Malaysia’s local terroir, recreating flavours that are quintessentially and uniquely Malaysian. This collaboration will underscore the innovative and dynamic nature of new-Asian cuisine, showcasing the rich culinary traditions of both Indonesia and Malaysia.
